Key Responsibilities
The successful Neurosurgery Registrar / Specialty Doctor will be expected to:
- Provide clinical care to patients under the responsibility of the consultant.
- Participate in the Neurosurgery on-call rota.
- Assess patients in clinics and formulate treatment plans.
- Assist with or perform appropriate procedures under consultant supervision.
- Conduct daily ward rounds for inpatients.
- Supervise and support junior medical staff.
- Assess and manage patients presenting acutely to the Neurosurgery service.
- Participate in clinical audits and quality assurance activities.
- Attend clinical meetings, case conferences and multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Work collaboratively with consultants, doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of integrated Neurosurgery pathways.
- Teach and support junior doctors and other relevant healthcare staff.
- Communicate effectively with GPs, community services and other healthcare professionals.
- Maintain professional knowledge through continuing medical education.
- Follow GMC guidance and applicable clinical and corporate governance policies.
- Participate in mandatory training and professional development activities.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with relevant workplace policies.
Requirements
Applicants should have:
- Current GMC registration – essential.
- Appropriate clinical experience in Neurosurgery or a related surgical specialty.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to manage a varying clinical workload.
- Appropriate experience for Registrar / LAS SpR / Specialty Doctor level.
- IELTS or OET for eligible international medical graduates, where required.
- Commitment to continuing professional development.
- Ability to meet UK healthcare employment and safeguarding requirements.
For international medical graduates, the advertised requirement includes IELTS with an overall score of 7.5 or OET Grade B, subject to applicable GMC requirements.
